The number most firms will not put in writing

Most Canadian accounting firms answer this question with a conversation rather than a figure. HBT publishes the whole schedule. An individual personal return starts at $65. A business owner or self employed return starts at $350. Monthly bookkeeping starts at $500 per month. A corporate year end with the T2 return starts at $2,500.

What moves a fee above the starting price is the condition of the records and the volume of work, never a surprise at the end. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business put total regulatory compliance costs for small business at 51.5 billion dollars in 2024, around 735 hours a year per business. Knowing the accounting number in advance is the part you can actually control.

Before you call

What happens on the first call

The first conversation is free and takes about 10 to 15 minutes. A team member in Calgary answers, asks what is urgent, and explains the useful next step. There is no obligation to start an engagement.

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the pressure point

A CRA letter, a filing deadline, messy books, payroll, or a decision you need to understand.

  2. Step 2

We ask a few practical questions

Entity type, province, records, software, and the date that matters. You do not need a perfect file first.

  3. Step 3

You leave with a next step

We explain the work, the information required, timing, and price before anything begins.

Fees

How we price the work

The first conversation is free. Starting fees are published on the fees page. Those amounts are starting prices and subject to 5% GST. Final fees depend on complexity, volume, record quality and scope. Fixed fees are provided where the engagement scope can be determined in advance. You will know the price before paid work starts.

Service scope

What moves a fee above the starting price

The exact responsibilities, timing, and records depend on the agreed engagement. These are the areas we can discuss when shaping a scope that fits your business.

The state of the records

Reconciled books cost less to work from than a year of unsorted receipts. A cleanup is priced separately so you can see it.

Volume, not complexity alone

Transaction count, number of accounts, employees and properties drive the work more than the type of business does.

How many filings are involved

A single return is one price. A corporation with payroll, GST and a year end is a bundle, quoted as one.

How the work begins

A clear process before the accounting starts

  1. Step 1

    A free first conversation

What you run, what is filed, what is late. No charge and no obligation.

  2. Step 2

    A written fee

The scope and the price confirmed before any paid work starts.

  3. Step 3

    No moving target

If the work changes, you hear the new number before it is done, not after.
