Practices and professional firms, a close pair
St. Albert had 68,232 people in 2021, up 4% in five years, with about 1,426 to each square kilometre. Statistics Canada's latest count found 2,367 businesses with employees. Health care and social assistance led with 349, just ahead of professional, scientific and technical services (340), with construction third at 295.
A corporation in Alberta answers to two tax authorities. The federal T2 goes to the CRA, and a corporation with a permanent establishment in Alberta also files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration. Alberta and Quebec are the only provinces that administer their own corporate income tax, so a practice or firm that incorporates here has one more return than most of Canada. HBT works from Calgary and handles St. Albert files remotely.

Does a St. Albert corporation file a return with Alberta as well as the CRA?
Yes, unless it is exempt. A corporation with a permanent establishment in Alberta files the AT1 with Alberta Tax and Revenue Administration alongside the federal T2, and the AT1 is due within six months of the end of its tax year. For tax years beginning after December 31, 2024 it has to be filed electronically through Net File, except by insurance corporations, non resident corporations, corporations that report in a functional currency and corporations exempt under section 35 of the Alberta Corporate Tax Act.
